Preparing to Graduate

Congratulations on your achievement. In this section, you will find information that will help make the graduation process go smoothly for you.

Important Information 
  • There is no fee to apply for graduation.
  • All official graduation correspondence will be sent your Lakehawk email.
  • Degrees and certificates will be mailed out 6-8 weeks after the conferral date.
  • If you require official college transcripts, order them through your LOIS account.
  • Grade Forgiveness - If you wish to improve your GPA or satisfy transfer requirements, retake courses with a "D" or "F" prior to graduating. Once you have been awarded an A.A., A.S., A.A.S., and/or Technical Certificate, grade forgiveness cannot be awarded.
  • Participation in the Commencement ceremony: Students who are within two courses of fulfilling their graduation requirements may walk in the ceremony providing they submit a graduation application by the graduation application deadline.
  • Degrees are conferred at the end of each semester (fall, spring, summer).
  • LSSC holds formal commencement ceremonies at the end of Fall and Spring semester. Participation in commencement exercises does not guarantee the awarding or issuance of a degree. Degree conferral relies solely on the satisfactory completion of all requirements.
  • You may check the status of your graduation application through your LOIS account.

Steps to Graduation

 Follow the steps as listed below: 

  • ​Complete the course requirements for the desired degree or certificate for the catalog year under which you plan to graduate.
  • Earn a cumulative 2.0 college grade point average and a 2.0 LSSC grade point average.
  • Complete a minimum of 25% of degree course requirements at LSSC.
  • Resolve any holds; this may include lany holds; this may include library, lending library, missing documents or financial/Business Office holds. 
  • If you completed any coursework outside of LSSC, submit all transfer and transient work through an official college or university transcript.
  • If you applied to be a Transient Student at another postsecondary institution while an LSSC student and did not attend, you must obtain a "non attendance verification" letter from the host institution.
  • Complete a graduation application (linked below) for each degree or technical certificate you wish to be awarded. Submit your form to the Admissions and Records office on the Leesburg, South Lake or Sumter campus by the posted deadline.
  • It is the student's responsibility to ensure they have fulfilled all graduation requirements.

Online Graduation Application

LSSC's new online graduation application is now available! All students planning on meeting degree requirements must complete the online graduation application whether they plan to attend the ceremony or not.

Follow these instructions to submit the online graduation application and to determine your completion status:

  • Click on the following link to go on to your LOIS account. LOIS Account
  • Enter your student XID and your PIN, and click on the Login button. Select the student tab, and click on the Graduation Application.
  • You will be able to submit one graduation application per program. If you are applying to graduate from multiple programs, you will need to submit one application per program. (You must be coded in our system for the program you are applying for.) If you need to make changes or run into difficulties, please email
  • If you are a Dual Enrollment student, submit your application under the program that appears for you, which is ND-Dual Enrollment.
  • You will receive an email via your Lakehawk Mail account letting you know a note has been added to your Degree Works audit. The statement will indicate if you are on target to complete your graduation requirements, or if there are any unmet course requirements. You may view your Degree Works audit via your LOIS account.
  • While completing the online graduation application, you will be able to indicate if you wish to attend the Commencement Ceremony.


Graduation With Honors  

Students who have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours at LSSC are eligible for graduation honors.

The appropriate honors are recorded on the student's diploma. The honors, based on scholastic achievement, are as follows:

GPA Honor
3.40-3.59 Cum Laude (with honor)
3.60-3.79 Magna Cum Laude (with high honor)
3.80-4.00 Summa Cum Laude (with highest honor)

LSSC will confer Honors Recognition for graduates based on scholastic achievement at both Graduation Ceremonies. Honors will be noted on the student's degree or certificate regardless of the term a degree or certificate was conferred.

Honor cords and tassels will be distributed during graduation ceremony check-in at the designated Honors table.

Honor cords and tassels will be given out to students whose cumulative GPA from August 2018 is 3.4 or higher.

Congratulations on your graduation from LSSC! The Commencement Ceremony marks an important milestone in your life. The College faculty and staff are very proud of your achievement and share in your excitement!

Participants in this ceremony include: Villages Charter High School, Sumter Campus students, Leesburg Campus students, Nursing Bridge students, and BAS-OM


Helpful Information for Graduates

Accommodations for persons with disabilities

Cap and Gown   

All graduates must wear a black cap and gown over their clothing to participate in the ceremonies. Caps and gowns will be available in both bookstores. Cap, gown and tassel cost approximately $45. You may purchase each item separately. Diploma covers will also be available. If you would like to order personalized announcements, thank you notes and/or other graduation products, visit 

Professional Photographer  

A professional photographer will be present to photograph each graduate as they walk across the stage. Graduates will be sent a free color proof and order forms in the mail within three weeks after the ceremony. Family and friends are asked to take pictures with their graduate before and after the ceremony. 

Commencement Ceremony Livestream  

The Commencement Ceremony will be videotaped and broadcasted live. More information to follow.  

Graduates with Phi Theta Kappa membership recognition

All students who are members of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) should contact Ms. Jacklyn Pierce for details on purchasing the PTK honors regalia. 352.323.3631 

Guest Tickets 

Graduates will be eligible for up to 3 tickets for guests to be able to attend the ceremony. Please check your Lakehawk Mail in early April for more details.
