Welcome to Lake-Sumter State College Graduation page. Here you will be able to find information on graduating from LSSC and the graduation ceremony. For more information on graduating please see below and review information regarding the LSSC Graduation Ceremony.
Please note: the date, times, and format have changed for the 2016 - 17 graduation ceremonies. This year LSSC will be hosting three ceremonies, one ceremony in the fall and two in the spring. Please see below for more information.
Preparing to Graduate
Congratulations on your achievement. In this section you will find information that will help make the graduation process go smoothly for you.
There is no fee to apply for graduation
All official graduation correspondence will be sent your LakeHawk email.
Diplomas and certificates will be mailed out 4-6 weeks after the conferral date.
If you require official college transcripts please order them through your LOIS account.
Grade Forgiveness- If you wish to improve your GPA or satisfy transfer requirements retake any courses with a "D" or "F" prior to graduating. Once you have been awarded an A.A., A.S., A.A.S., and/or Technical Certificate grade forgiveness cannot be awarded.
The College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST/CLAS) is no longer required for graduation (effective July 1, 2011).
Participation in the Commencement ceremony: Students who are within 6 credits of fulfilling their graduation requirements may walk in the ceremony providing they submit a graduation application by the graduation application deadline.
Degrees are conferred at the end of each semester (fall, spring, summer).
LSSC holds formal commencement ceremonies at the end of Fall and Spring semester. Participation in commencement exercises does not guarantee the awarding or issuance of a degree. Degree conferral relies solely on the satisfactory completion of all requirements.
You can check the status of your graduation application through your LOIS account.
Steps to Graduation
Please follow the steps as listed below:
- Complete the course requirements for the desired degree or certificate for the catalog year under which you plan to graduate.
- Beginning 2013-2014, students who maintain continuous enrollment must complete their degree within five (5) years. Continuously enrolled students who do not complete their degree within five (5) years, will be required to fulfill the requirements of the most current catalog. Continuous enrollment is defined as one full semester of enrollment per year (fall or spring).
- Earn a cumulative 2.0 college grade point average and a 2.0 LSSC grade point average.
- Complete a minimum of 25% of degree course requirements at LSSC.
- Take care of any holds, which may include library, lending library, missing documents or financial/Business Office holds.
- If you completed any coursework outside of LSSC, please submit all transfer and transient work through an official college or university transcript.
- If you applied to be a transient student at another postsecondary institution while an LSSC student and did not attend, please secure a " non attendance verification" letter from the host institution.
- Complete a graduation application (linked below) for each degree or technical certificate you wish to be awarded. Submit your form to the Admissions and Records office on the Leesburg, South Lake or Sumter campus by the posted deadline.
- It is the student's responsibility to ensure that they have fulfilled all graduation requirements.
- Application deadlines can be found on the Academic Calendar.

Graduation With Honors
Students who have completed a minimum of 24 semester hours at LSSC are eligible for graduation honors.
The appropriate honors are recorded on the student's diploma. The honors, based on scholastic achievement, are as follows:
||Cum Laude (with honor)|
||Magna Cum Laude (with high honor)|
||Summa Cum Laude (with highest honor)|
LSSC will confer honors recognition for graduates based on scholastic achievement at both Graduation Ceremonies. Honors will still be noted on the student's diploma or certificate regardless of the term a degree or certificate was conferred.
Honor cords and tassels will be distributed during graduation ceremony check-in at the designated Honors table.
Honor cords and tassels will only be given to those students that have completed all graduation requirements and have met the previously mentioned scholastic achievement for the Fall semester.
Students who have outstanding transfer work, incomplete graduation requirements or are planning to complete their requirements in an upcoming semester will not be eligible for honors recognition at the commencement ceremony.
