With just four weeks left until TEDxLSSC, there is still time to register to attend this unique event. TEDxLSSC will feature 12 local speakers at an all-day event on September 15, 2017, at the Lake-Sumter State College campus. The theme is “Inciting Innovation”.
“TEDx is more than just a series of live, short talks,” explains Amber Karlins, co-organizer for the event. “It’s an event. At TEDxLSSC, in addition to our 12 wonderful and engaging speakers, we will also have live demos and performances, art exhibitions, interactive activities, and innovative technology.”
Ticket prices include an all-access pass to the day’s events and activities, lunch, a gift bag, and admission to the after party.
In a change to the speaker lineup, Shayna “Simba” Castano, an internally established poet and performer, will speak about the work she does with her non-profit organization.
Castano was ranked in the top 30 of 76 competitors at the World Poetry Slam in 2015. She is a philanthropist, a mother, a wife, an educator, and a human rights advocate. Castano currently works for Orange County Public Schools as an English Language Arts Teacher while simultaneously operating her non-profit organization, Exodus United, Inc. When she is not teaching, Castano spends the majority of her time facilitating poetry & pedagogy workshops at homeless shelters and after-school care programs for low-income youth.
In the spirit of “ideas worth spreading,” TED has created TEDx, a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. TEDxLSSC is not organized by TED Conferences, but is operated under a license from TED.
TED is an annual event that brings together the world’s leading thinkers and doers to share ideas that matter in any discipline — technology, entertainment, design, science, humanities, business, and development.
The community is invited to attend TEDxLSSC by submitting a participant application. Applications are available online at tedxlssc.com.
