Lake-Sumter State College will offer in-state tuition for the upcoming semester to students displaced from Puerto Rico due to Hurricane Maria.

“Our community came together in tremendous ways to support one another after Hurricane Irma,” said Dr. Stanley Sidor, President of Lake-Sumter State College. “In that same way, we are proud to offer support to students displaced from Puerto Rico so that they may continue their education without incurring additional financial burdens.”

LSSC supports Governor Rick Scott’s commitment to help Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria. In a Sept. 26 letter, Gov. Scott encouraged Florida universities and state colleges to “allow any student who has been displaced from their home in Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria to be eligible for in-state tuition.”

Annual in-state tuition is approximately $3,100 at LSSC, an approximate $10,000 difference from the out-of-state cost.

LSSC continues to assist students impacted by Hurricane Irma. Through the Emergency Dean initiative, the College has assisted nearly a dozen students who were severely impacted by damages from Irma.
