LSSC honors five local educators at annual conference

Lake-Sumter State College recently hosted its annual High School Counselor’s Conference in Leesburg with over 100 educators in attendance.

At this year’s event, five local educators were honored for their commitment to student success and LSSC’s dual enrollment program. The recipients were Jan Thompson of Villages Charter High School, Ryan Eshbaugh of Mt. Dora High School, Judy Mitchell of South Lake High School, Mona Oliver of South Sumter High School, and Amy Sullivan of Real Life Christian Academy Home School Co-op.

“These five hard-working educators represent our shared commitment to student success and the
promotion a strong college-going culture in our area”, says Dr. Claire Brady, LSSC’s vice president of
enrollment and student affairs.

The Conference focuses on the successful transition from high school to college and brings together high school-based staff and college staff from public, private, and home education programs across Lake and Sumter counties.

The year’s theme was “Partners in Excellence” and it was held during National School Counselor’s week, sponsored by the American School Counselor Association to honor and celebrate local school counselors and staff.

In addition to recognition and appreciation, attendees participated in presentations and interactive workshops to learn and share best practices for supporting students in our area and to promote and encourage their college and career readiness.

Throughout the community, Lake-Sumter State College is working collaboratively with K-12 educators on a wide variety of projects and educational programs to enhance the learning opportunities and attainment in the high schools, continuing to the college level.

High school juniors or seniors interested in dual enrollment courses should contact their school’s counselor. Seniors interested in attending Lake-Sumter State College should visit LSSC.edu and apply by April 23 to start this summer or August 1 for fall semester.
