LSSC monitoring and preparing for Hurricane Dorian

Lake-Sumter State College is actively monitoring information and reports regarding Hurricane Dorian. The College is coordinating with state and local emergency management officials to prepare for the possibility of impacts from Dorian.

At this time, no decision has been made regarding closing Lake-Sumter State College due to Hurricane Dorian. The College is already closed on Monday 9/2 for Labor Day.

  • Classes and activities on 8/30 and 8/31 will occur as scheduled.
  • The Math Emporium will be open regular hours on 8/30 and 8/31.
  • Cooper Memorial Library will be open regular hours on 8/30 and 8/31.

We will provide regular updates through email, social media and LSSC.edu as we have additional information. If a decision to close the College is made, an announcement will be made through the LSSC Alert system. All faculty, staff and students are automatically enrolled in this system. To update your notification preferences, please visit LSSC.edu/emergencyalerts for information on accessing your profile. Community members can sign up to receive alerts at the same location.

We encourage you to sign up for emergency notifications from County Emergency Management officials. You can receive alerts from Lake County by signing up for AlertLake at www.alertlake.com and from Sumter County by signing up for AlertSumter at https://sumtercountyfl.gov/718/Emergency-Management.

We also urge you to begin preparing and enacting your own emergency plan; important tips are available at http://www.floridadisaster.org/getaplan/.
