LSSC makes difficult decision to postpone Spring 2020 Commencement Ceremonies

This message was sent to the entire Lakehawk community on March 27, 2020.

Dear LSSC student, faculty, staff, and community partners,

As a college community, we are facing unprecedented challenges that we could never have predicted even a few months ago. Over the next few months, we will face significant disruptions—both as a college community and in our personal and professional lives. These circumstances will be particularly distressing for the Class of 2020.

Following guidance from state and federal agencies to suspend large events and promote social distancing due to COVID-19, we have made the very difficult but necessary decision to postpone the spring ceremonies to late July 2020. Understanding that these new dates are contingent on local/state orders and the recommendations of public health authorities.

Please know this:

You deserve to wear a cap and gown.
You deserve to celebrate this day with your friends & family.
You deserve to hear your name read aloud.
You deserve this moment.

The details:

  • Specific dates and times for the Leesburg and Clermont ceremonies will be sent out as soon as they are finalized.
  • Spring graduates who cannot attend this July will also have the option to participate in our December 2020 ceremony.
  • Graduates will receive their diplomas in the mail in mid-June as they normally would.

I know that commencement is one of the highlights of the student experience—an inspiring celebration of our student’s accomplishments. Thank you again for your understanding and support in these most unusual times.

Please watch for additional communications over the coming weeks about our plans to celebrate the Class of 2020 in other ways using our website, social media, etc…

I am proud to be a member of this extraordinary LSSC community, and particularly proud of the Class of 2020.

My very best wishes to you all.

Dr. Claire Brady
