A Message from LSSC President Sidor on racial injustice

To the Lakehawk Community,

Our hearts are heavy as we grieve the needless killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis and other killings around the country to racism, ignorance, and hate. I strongly condemn these acts of injustice and hope that the circumstances surrounding Floyd’s death are thoroughly investigated and that justice is served.

At Lake-Sumter State College, we have no tolerance for racism or discrimination. As a community of both students and educators, we all have the responsibility to uphold the College’s values, particularly those of respect, diversity, and inclusion. We must all be committed to becoming a truly inclusive community – a place where everyone feels welcomed and valued.

As we move forward, I encourage each of you to consider how you can be part of positive change by taking time to listen to those affected, engaging in self-reflection, and educating yourself around these issues. Meaningful change requires all of us.

Dr. Stan Sidor
