Isabelle Medlin, a Lake County Virtual School alumna from Clermont, Florida, is not only a bright and accomplished individual, but she has also been chosen as Lake-Sumter State College’s South Lake student commencement speaker. After graduating from high school in June 2020, she earned 48 credits toward an associate degree through Lake Sumter’s dual enrollment and early admissions programs. She has since excelled academically, earning a place on the Dean’s List for Fall 2021, Spring 2022, and Summer 2022 semesters at Lake Sumter State College. Isabelle has also been recognized on the President’s List for Fall 2022 and expects to be on it again for Spring 2023.
Her educational and career goals are focused on pursuing a career as a Radiology Technician, where she aspires to be a lead technician using the degree she is earning in leadership and organizational management. She is passionate about this career path because it allows her to explore different paths and find the perfect fit.
Isabelle has been involved in her community and various organizations outside of her academic achievements. She was a Student Orientation Leader at LSSC and interned at Find Feed and Restore in the Fall 2022 semester. She enjoys spending time with her loved ones and going to the beach in her free time.
One of the most impactful professors she has had is Matthew Kennedy, who helped her when she first started at LSSC as a nervous 16-year-old student. Her best memory of LSSC was taking American Sign Language, being a SOAR leader, helping students, and leading campus tours.
Isabelle advises new Lakehawks to be confident in their choices, proud of their accomplishments, and aware of the opportunities that come with attending LSSC. She reminds them to take time for themselves, grow academically and individually, and enjoy their time at LSSC because it goes by fast.
Isabelle is grateful for the encouragement and support of Shannon Herrera, who has been instrumental in helping her achieve her goals. Her educational achievements, involvement in the community, and dedication to personal growth make Isabelle a role model for future Lakehawks.
