The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) has named freshman Jaden Miller was named the NJCAA Track & Field Women’s Indoor Athlete of the Week for her impressive debut performance in the triple jump, long jump, and 60-meter events at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational last week in Gainesville, Fla.
With a mark of 5.26m (17’2.35″), Miller placed 19th in the long jump. Also showcasing her skill in the triple jump, a leap of 10.66m (34’11.75″) gave her a 15th place finish in the event.
In the 60-meter, Miller led the team with a time of 8.13, setting a new school record and finishing 35th overall.
Head Coach Cristy Snellgroves shared her thoughts on Miller’s achievement, “Jaden Miller is an exceptional talent with incredible protentional. As a sprinter and a standout in the long jump and triple jump, she brings versatility and determination to every performance.”
“Her opening meet was impressive, but I believe it is just the start of what she can achieve this season. Jaden’s positivity and coachability make her a joy to work with, and I am excited to see her immense growth in the months ahead,” said Coach Snellgroves.
Miller becomes just the second Lakehawk Track & Field athlete to be recognized by the NJCAA weekly awards. In 2024, Jaabir Taylor was named the NJCAA Track & Field Men’s Indoor Athlete of the Week for his record-breaking performance in the 400m.
At this time, Lake-Sumter is one of the first Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) athletic programs to sponsor track & field. Due to less competition at the junior college level, Miller and he Lakehawks have the unique opportunity to compete in fields of four-year athletes from all levels of the NCAA and NAIA.
The Lakehawks be back in Gainesville this Saturday, Jan. 24 for the RADD Sports College Invite.
