Update on LSSC’s Response to Coronavirus/COVID-19 (March 26)

The following message was sent to all Lake-Sumter State College students on March 26, 2020.

This week, we have all been adjusting to the challenges that come with moving courses to remote learning and offering our campus services virtually. Despite these challenging times, your College faculty & staff have remained committed to supporting academically and personally.

To further support you, LSSC has mobilized a team of Student Affairs staff to serve as Emergency Deans. These Emergency Deans are available to directly assist individual students who are in distress due to issues related to COVID-19. Please email deanofstudents@lssc.edu to communicate directly with an Emergency Dean for support.

The College’s Coronavirus Response Team continues to coordinate with local, state, and federal authorities for information and guidance. We are proceeding with completing courses this semester via remote learning and will keep our campuses closed (except for essential personnel) until at least April 15. We will continue to publish updates and resources at www.lssc.edu/coronavirus.

We have the following updates for you this week.

Testing Center

The Testing Center will offer limited testing opportunities (PERT, Pre-Selection HESI, CLEP, and SAS testing) for current and prospective students only on the Leesburg and South Lake campuses within CDC guidelines. Instructions on scheduling, payment, and test availability will be posted to the Testing Center webpage.

Lakehawk Town Halls

All students are invited to virtual town halls where representatives from across the College will be available to answer questions related to our COVID-19 response, remote learning, virtual college services, or any other topic on your mind. These town halls are scheduled for Monday, March 30 at 7:00pm and Thursday, April 2 at 1:00pm. Keep checking your Lakehawk mail for Zoom links coming your way soon.

Commencement

Given our current situation, the College must postpone the Spring Commencement Ceremonies. This is not a decision we take lightly, and we expect to make a formal announcement on Commencement soon and how we will honor and recognize our graduating students.

On-Campus Events

Events hosted by College departments or groups are canceled until our campuses reopen with full staffing. Any external events have been canceled through at least May 31. In addition, no new reservations will be accepted at this time.

Virtual College Services

The Virtual College Services page has been published with updated contact instructions or information for accessing campus services. Please check this page to access the services or resources you would utilize on campus.

Our faculty and staff are deeply committed to your success; please know that we are here for you and can help you navigate these challenges. Please continue to reach out to your faculty, advisors, coaches, and emergency deans.
