The Upward Bound Program serves high school students in the Lake County community. The program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to motivate and serve first-generation college-bound students from modest-income households. Some of the available resources include mentorship, educational advisement, and test prep.

LSSC’s Upward Bound program exposes participants to different opportunities including:

  • Bi-monthly Saturday tutoring sessions during the academic year
  • Florida College/University tours
  • Job shadowing opportunities

The most important component of the program is its six-week summer program, where students take college preparatory courses at Lake-Sumter State College for five weeks and attend our residential component for one week in the dorms of a Florida college or university.

LSSC’s Upward Bound program is committed to the academic needs of its students to ensure that they maintain success in school, graduate, and move on to pursue a higher education.
