Accessibility Best Practices
For each resource type, this guide provides information about the benchmarks for accessibility. Keep these general best practices in mind:
- Use sufficient font and color contrast.
- Ensure that font and color contrast are not the only means of communicating the importance or order of information in a page.
- Make all documents screen reader friendly.
- Make all multimedia accessible by including closed captions for videos and alt text for images.
- When using hyperlinks, make the link text meaningful. For example, instead of “Click here” or “”Learn more”, include the full title of the destination page.

Finding and Fixing a Course with UDOIT
For each resource type, we go through the easiest way to fix major accessibility issues in your course. The goal is to make everything as accessible as we can, so aim to address all errors that get flagged by your accessibility checkers.
New for Spring 2026, you will have access to the Universal Design Online content Inspection Tool (UDOIT), which is a Canvas program designed to find and fix accessibility issues in your Canvas courses. Check out the Cidi Labs UDOIT User Training Series to learn more!
