A message to our 2020 graduates on postponement of Commencement ceremonies

This message was sent to the entire Lakehawk community on June 24, 2020.

Dear LSSC graduates,

Over the past few months, we have all faced significant disruptions—both as a college community and in our personal and professional lives. These circumstances were particularly distressing for the Class of 2020.

In March, I shared that we planned to postpone spring Commencement to late July contingent upon the ability to host large events.

I write you today to share that following guidance from state and federal agencies regarding large events and the need to adhere to CDC physical distancing guidelines, we are not able to offer our Commencement ceremonies this July as we planned. We are so very sorry.

Instead, we will postpone the ceremonies and invite all May and August graduates to participate in the December 2020 or May 2021 ceremonies. Planning is already underway to ensure we can host ceremonies in both Leesburg and Clermont in December- should such events be permitted at that time.

The details:

  • Specific dates and times for the December 2020 ceremonies will be emailed out and posted on the Commencement website as soon as they are finalized and shared with our faculty/staff.
  • Spring graduates who cannot attend in December 2020 will also have the option to participate in our May 2021 ceremonies.
  • Graduates will receive a very special “Lakehawk send-off” gift in late July to the mailing address we have on file in LOIS. So if you need to update your address, now is a great time to do that.

I know that commencement is one of the highlights of the student experience—an inspiring celebration of our student’s accomplishments. Thank you again for your understanding and support in these most unusual times.

I am proud to be a member of this extraordinary LSSC community, and particularly proud of the Class of 2020.

My very best wishes to you all.
