The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds. TRIO includes eight programs targeted to serve and assist low-income individuals, first-generation college students, and individuals with disabilities to progress through the academic pipeline from middle school to postbaccalaureate programs. TRIO also includes a training program for directors and staff of TRIO projects.
Upward Bound provides fundamental support to participants in preparation for college success. The program serves high school students from low-income families, as well as students from families in which neither parent holds a bachelor’s degree.
Talent Search is designed to assist youth who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to middle and high school students and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to and complete their postsecondary education.
