Monique Barnes is a driven individual from Tavares, FL who has always enjoyed learning and being knowledgeable. She graduated from Tavares High in 2012 and continued her education at Indian River State College and Tidewater Community College. Monique’s educational and career goals include pursuing her master’s degree within the next year, and becoming a supervisor at LCSO when she becomes eligible. Her desire to become a supervisor is fueled by her belief that her presence could increase diversification in law enforcement in Lake County so that the full community is represented.
After graduation, Monique plans to take a small hiatus from school until about spring of 2024 to relax. During this time, she will be looking for an institution to complete her master’s to increase her knowledge on leadership within an organization. She will also pursue specialized training in law enforcement and prepare for her future roles in leadership.
While Monique has been busy with work, school, and parenthood, she hopes to increase her involvement in the community, pursue coaching basketball, and mentor Lake County youth. Monique enjoys being active, working out, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Shelly Greig has been Monique’s most impactful faculty member during her time at LSSC. Dr. Greig fostered an environment that helped Monique learn how to be a leader. Monique’s favorite memory from LSSC was getting on the stage at graduation and delivering the commencement speech.
Monique advises a new Lakehawk to stay persistent and not quit. What surprised Monique during her journey at LSSC was her ability to do so well. Monique credits the college’s ability to build a program that met her needs and desires. The Strategic Leadership program was just perfect for her in every way.
Monique’s determination and dedication to her education and career goals are inspiring. Her passion for diversifying law enforcement in Lake County and being a leader in the community will undoubtedly make a positive impact. We are honored to have Monique Barnes as our commencement speaker.
