The Lineworker Boot Camp is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions as Lineworker Apprentices, with the potential to advance to Journeyman Lineworker roles. The program lasts 10 weeks, or 7 weeks for those with a Class A CDL. Training includes CDL Class A, OSHA 10, Basic Flagging and MOT, CPR and First Aid, electrical theory, pole line construction, and climbing techniques. Classes are held at the Sumter Campus, limited to 15 students, and feature practical exercises like pole line building, call-out drills, and simulated hot work. Start dates are regularly updated on the LSSC website.

Program Cost

The cost for the bootcamp combo 10-week program is $8,550. This price will increase starting with the August 10th bootcamp to $9,150, split into two payments. First payment of $3,900 to secure your spot in the class. The second payment of $5,250 is due 1 week prior to the start of the class. The cost covers all aspects of your training: insurance, textbooks and handouts, safety gear, tools and equipment, field training, CDL instruction, and up to two attempts at the CDL exam. Students are provided with unlimited water and ice.

If you have your Class A CDL, the program is only 7-weeks long and costs $5,250. The start dates will be different than the ones listed above.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), as of May 2023, Florida ranks third in the nation for employment of Electrical Power-Line Installers and Repairers, with approximately 6,360 individuals employed in this occupation statewide. These workers earn a mean hourly wage of $37.47 and an annual mean wage of $77,950.

The Lineworker Boot Camp is a state-certified training program designed to prepare students for pre-apprentice opportunities with electrical power companies, based on their hiring preferences for entry-level workers.

Students will spend three weeks in CDL training to obtain a Class A CDL. The remaining 7 weeks, the students will learn to use industry hand tools, safely climb utility poles, hang transformers, operate bucket and digger trucks, run above and below ground power lines, perform first aid/CPR, and receive OSHA safety training, among other skills.

The class structure is approximately 25% classroom instruction and 75% field training.

The Sumter Campus features a 2.5-acre utility pole field, a dedicated classroom with modern technology, restrooms and showers, covered teaching labs, four utility trucks (both bucket and digger trucks), numerous utility poles of various sizes, underground utility training stations, hundreds of hand tools from various manufacturers, and all necessary electric utility hardware.

All Lineworker Boot Camps are held at the Sumter Campus in Sumterville.

Classes run Monday through Friday from 8 am to 4 pm for ten consecutive weeks, including three weeks of CDL training.

Each class accommodates a maximum of 15 students.

The bootcamp costs $8,550 which is broken down into two payments. The first payment of $3,600 secures your seat in the bootcamp. The second payment of $4,950 covers the remaining cost of the bootcamp and is due one week prior to the start of the bootcamp. The bootcamp cost includes all training aspects, insurance, textbooks, handouts, safety gear, tools, equipment, lab training, CDL instruction, and up to two attempts at the CDL exam. Students are also provided with unlimited water and ice.

PRICE INCREASE EFFECTIVE AUGUST 10, 2026 – New amount will be $9,150. First payment will be $3,900 to secure your seat in the bootcamp. The second payment of $5,250 covers the remaining cost of the bootcamp and is due one week prior to the start of the bootcamp.

This class is not eligible for Pell Grants as it is not a traditional college credit class. However, it qualifies for the State of Florida CareerSource grant and the Lake Community Action Agency grant, either can cover the entire cost for those who meet certain financial criteria. Eligibility can be confirmed through a local Lake Community Action or Career Source office. Additionally, the class accepts private scholarships that align with its educational standards.

Students may also be eligible for a $1,500 scholarship from the Lake-Sumter State College Foundation. Private scholarships are accepted if they meet educational requirements.

For students enrolled in the Lineworker-CDL combo bootcamp, they must bring their valid driver’s license, CDL permit, and passed drug test taken no more than 30 days prior to the start of the bootcamp. For those students who already have their CDL, you must bring your license with you. Students must purchase their own protective-toed leather work boots. Students should wear denim jeans and a long-sleeved work shirt to class and bring their own writing instruments and notepad.

Graduates will receive a Lineworker Bootcamp certificate, a Class A CDL (upon passing the exam), OSHA 10 safety and First Aid/CPR cards, DOT flagging certification, a current resume, and CAST prep training.

Absolutely! The training is specifically designed for entry-level positions. We help you build your resume and prepare for the written tests on basic math and reading comprehension that some employers use during the interview process.

No. While we invite businesses to your graduation, all interactions and leads are yours to follow up on.

We work with over 14 regional electric utility employers, two national employers, and multiple municipalities. Our training program is tailored to their requirements for entry-level workers. Our graduates are employed across the United States.

While campus tours are available, they are not mandatory for registration.

Lineworkers install, maintain, and repair electrical distribution and transmission systems, including conduits, cables, wires, and related equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, and switches. They also dig holes using augers and set poles using cranes and power equipment.

Lineworkers must understand electrical and power equipment and have knowledge of electrical currents, voltage, and resistance.
