General Camp Information & FAQ

Tell me more about your summer staff. How are they trained and are they background checked?

Kids’ College Coordinators: Coordinators are Lake-Sumter State College employees who work with students daily. These coordinators are continuously trained for interactions with students and are background checked.

Kids’ College Instructors: Most instructors are public school teachers who work with students daily. These instructors are continuously trained for interactions with students and are background checked.

Kids’ College Leaders-in-Training: LIT’s are summer volunteers attending a leadership program that assist instructors in their classes and serve as role models to campers. They help to ensure an inclusive environment for all children while helping students to complete tasks/projects. LIT’s are high school students entering 10th-12th grades earning their community service hours.

Does your camp provide lunch?

No, students who are attending a full day camp will need to bring a packed lunch and drink with the student’s name marked on the outside. Students will keep their lunch/drink with them as they go to classes.

What if my child needs medicine during the day?

Kids’ College staff will NOT administer any medications. Students must be able to carry and administer (with supervision) their own medications.

Can my child use a backpack to transport their belongings each day?

Yes, it is highly recommended that student bring their own backpack for carrying snacks, drinks, and lunch, if staying all day. Please be sure that the student’s name is clearly marked on all belongings.

Are cellphones/electronic devices allowed at camp?

We do not recommend bringing valuable items to Kids’ College. Students are expected to be engaged and should not expect to spend time on electronic devices.
