Lake-Sumter State College is pleased to announce its student production of Gods’ Man that will be performed at the Clermont Arts & Recreation Center Black Box Theatre on February 26-28th and March 1st.
Written by Daniel “Woody” Weber, LSSC’s Dean of Arts/Humanities/Social & Behavioral Sciences, this unique play brings Lynd Ward’s wordless 1929 novel (composed entirely of woodcuts) to the stage. Additionally, the production is an homage to several 19th-century artistic and literary movements.
Director Aspacia Lindstrom describes the play: “An ambitious artist, down on his luck, encounters a shadowy figure at the pub who offers him a magical paintbrush in exchange for a mysterious favor. With his newfound talent, the artist’s works captivate the world, but success spirals into decadence as he’s seduced by wealth and power. Fleeing the city after a scandal, he discovers serenity in a small village. Just as he finds redemption, the shadowy figure returns to collect the favor, revealing a shocking twist that leaves the pub audience in stunned silence.”
