Monitoring the Coronavirus and COVID-19

Lake-Sumter State College is actively monitoring information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state health officials regarding the outbreak of the novel coronavirus and the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19).

While LSSC has no confirmed cases of COVID-19, we will continue to take proactive steps to help prepare our community. LSSC has developed a team from across the College to plan necessary precautions and make decisions related to our response to the virus. LSSC is collaborating with officials from local and state health departments, county and state emergency management, the Florida College System, and the Florida Department of Education to coordinate our efforts.

The CDC believes the immediate risk of this new virus to the American public is low at this time, but everyone can do their part to help prevent the spread of this and other illnesses. It’s currently flu and respiratory disease season and CDC recommends getting a flu vaccine, taking everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs, and taking flu antivirals if prescribed.

LSSC has set up a Coronavirus/COVID-19 page and as new information and resources become available for the LSSC community, it will be posted there.
