The Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership – Organizational Management prepares students to excel in leadership roles across various industries. Develop skills in communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and teamwork. Explore topics like entrepreneurial leadership, organizational change, and leading individuals and teams. Flexible in-person and online options are available, with start terms in Fall, Spring, or Summer. Complete the program in approximately five semesters.

Do you want to create change and make an impact in your career, workplace, or industry? Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting your leadership journey, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership (BAS-L) program at Lake-Sumter State College provides the tools, support, and guidance you need to excel in any industry or organization.

We all have leadership potential, and this program builds a foundation to prepare leaders to effectively manage their organizations and positively impact their communities. You will define your leadership philosophy by understanding yourself, others, and the community. We want you to be excited by your responsibility as a leader and change-agents. This program will be offered with both on-campus and online course requirements. Additional experiences outside of the classroom could require travel. You can obtain a BAS in Leadership degree from Lake-Sumter State College with the completion of approximately 60-hours on top of your A.A. or A.S. degree.

Graduates of this program pursue a multitude of career paths in a broad range of industries which may include: sales, retail, small business, government, public safety, healthcare, criminal justice, event management, and not-for-profit organizations.

Program Highlights

The BAS in Leadership degree with an Organizational Management concentration can open the door to many different career opportunities in both the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, as well as entrepreneurship. Leadership is consistently one of the most, if not the most, highly regarded and desired competencies in today’s business world. With coursework focused on communication, problem-solving, strategic thinking, and teamwork, graduates will find opportunities in a wide variety of organizations and salaries with unlimited potential.

Program Length

The program consists of 60 credit hours and can be completed in two years when attending full-time.

Program Cost

Tuition costs for programs and courses at the bachelor’s degree level are $122.25 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees.

Outcomes

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 9% growth in management occupations nationally from 2022 to 2032. Florida’s growing population and diverse industries are driving the need for skilled HR professionals. The state’s Department of Economic Opportunity projects a 9.3% growth in Management and Business Operations occupations, which includes some HR roles, from 2021 to 2030. The skills gained from this program and concentration will benefit individuals looking to enter the job market or eager to upskill.

The foundational core courses are required for all students in the BAS-Leadership program. These courses are intentionally structured to complement one another as corequisites and will provide you with a cohesive learning experience. You are advised to complete the courses in the provided sequence, based on your starting semester, to ensure timely degree completion.

Additional Support Courses are determined based on needs, interests, or gaps in the student’s coursework. The student will work with the academic advisor to determine which courses will be chosen to become part of the program of study. Additional support courses may be upper or lower-division courses and courses that are not already used in the program. It is strongly recommended that the additional support courses be selected in consultation with the advisor.

To be eligible for the BAS-L program, you must have already earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree from a regionally accredited college or university. 

The BAS-L program offers a flexible format with both online and on-campus course requirements. This allows students to pursue their degree while balancing work and personal commitments. 

The BAS-L program can be completed in as little as 60 credit hours, which typically translates to full-time students finishing in two years. However, the program can also be completed on a part-time basis, allowing students to adjust the pace based on their needs. 

The BAS-L program equips graduates with valuable leadership skills applicable to a broad range of industries. Career paths include, but are not limited to, sales, retail, small business management, government positions, public safety, healthcare administration, criminal justice, event management, and non-profit organizations.
