The Chemical Laboratory Specialist Certificate provides students with exposure to chemistry, mathematics, biological sciences, and/or physics necessary for success in a scientific lab setting. The content includes but is not limited to the development of chemical and other scientific skills.

The program completer will be able to assist chemists, biochemists, and chemical engineers by performing chemical, biological and physical laboratory tests for various purposes such as quality control monitoring of ongoing production operations, research and development, and the maintenance of health and safety standards in the laboratory.

The Chemical Laboratory Specialist Certificate offers students a solid foundation in chemistry, mathematics, and biological sciences and/or physics needed to succeed in a scientific lab setting. The program focuses on developing practical chemical and scientific skills essential for laboratory work.

Important Notes: All of the courses in this certificate can be applied to the Scientific Workplace Preparation Certificate and the Associate in Arts degree program. Many of the courses contained within this certificate fall in the STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) pathways and can be earned in conjunction. 

Program Length

3 semesters.

Program Cost

Tuition costs for programs and courses at the associate’s degree level are $109.73 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees.

The mean annual wage for this occupation is $46,230, with a mean hourly wage of $22.23. The median hourly wage is $21.71, while those in the 75th percentile earn around $22.74 per hour.

The job growth for chemical laboratory technicians in Florida is expected to be steady, aligning with the national average growth rate of about 6% from 2022 to 2032.
