Employer Contributory Retirement Plan

MyFRS Home

The FRS is an employee and employer contributory retirement plan. The rules surrounding FRS including the contribution rates are determined by the Florida Legislature and are reviewed yearly. One of the requirements of the State is that all full time and part time regular employees must participate in the FRS.  Additional information regarding FRS can be viewed by reviewing the MyFRS :: FRS Programs options.

Employees have the opportunity to participate in either the FRS Pension Plan or the Investment Plan. The vesting requirement is 6 to 8 years for the Pension plan (dependent upon initial date of enrollment into the FRS) and one (1) year for the Investment Plan.

FRS Investment Plan

The FRS Investment Plan is a defined contribution plan. Participants are vested upon completion of one year of creditable service and decide how to allocate contributions among offered investment funds. The amount of the retirement benefit is determined by the employer and employee contributions and the performance of the investment fund choices.

Employees participating in the FRS Investment Plan are encouraged to create an account with the MyFRS website to easily manage their account. Please note that you may need to request a PIN from the FRS to log in. You will receive a New Hire Kit from FRS within your first 3 months. It will include a pin required to create your account online and make your election.

FRS Pension Plan

The FRS Pension Plan is a defined benefit plan in which participants are guaranteed a benefit at retirement. The amount of the future benefit is determined by a formula based on earnings, length of service, and membership class.

Participants are vested upon completion of 8 years of creditable service and thus eligible to receive a lifetime monthly benefit upon retirement.

Employees participating in the FRS Pension Plan are encouraged to create an account with the FRS Online portal to easily manage their account. Please note that you may need to request a PIN from the FRS to log in. You will receive a New Hire Kit from FRS within your first 3 months. It will include a pin required to create your account online and make your election.
