The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reports that employment of film and video editors and camera operators is projected to grow by 3% from 2023 to 2033, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Approximately 7,100 job openings are projected each year due to workforce turnover and retirements. As of May 2023, the median annual wage for camera operators was $61,800, while film and video editors earned a median of $66,600.
The BLS also projects that employment of producers and directors will grow by 8% from 2023 to 2033, which is faster than the average for all occupations. Around 13,900 openings are expected each year, largely from workforce transitions and retirements. As of May 2023, the median annual wage for producers and directors was $82,510.
