The Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership with a concentration in Human Resources Management prepares students to lead in HR-focused roles. Develop skills in talent management, employee training, benefits management, and creating positive work environments. Offered through online and in-person classes at Leesburg and South Lake campuses, the program can be completed in approximately five semesters after earning an AA or AS degree.

Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting your leadership journey, the Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership (BAS-L) program at Lake-Sumter State College provides the tools, support, and guidance you need to excel in any industry or organization. 

We all have leadership potential and this program builds a foundation to prepare leaders to effectively manage their organizations and positively impact their communities. You will define your leadership philosophy by understanding yourself, others, and the community. We want you to be excited by your responsibility as a leader and change-agents. This program will be offered with both on-campus and online course requirements. Additional experiences outside of the classroom could require travel. You can obtain a BAS in Leadership degree from Lake-Sumter State College with the completion of approximately 60-hours on top of your AA or AS degree. 

Graduates of this program pursue a multitude of career paths in a broad range of industries which may include: sales, retail, small business, government, public safety, healthcare, criminal justice, event management, and not-for-profit organizations. 

The Human Resources concentration may be for you, if you are interested in:  

  • Understanding the importance of talent management in an organization  
  • Facilitating positive working environments and problem-solving  
  • Managing compensation, including benefits, for employees or an organization  
  • Developing extensive training and development plans for employees and organizations

The program consists of 60 credit hours and can be completed in two years when attending full-time.

Program Cost

Tuition costs for programs and courses at the bachelor's degree level are $122.25 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects a 7% growth in Human Resources Specialists nationally from 2022 to 2032. Florida’s growing population and diverse industries are driving the need for skilled HR professionals. The state’s Department of Economic Opportunity projects a 9.3% growth in Management and Business Operations occupations, which includes some HR roles, from 2021 to 2030

To be eligible for the BAS-L program, you must have already earned an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree from a regionally accredited college or university.

The BAS-L program offers a flexible format with both online and on-campus course requirements. This allows students to pursue their degree while balancing work and personal commitments.

The BAS-L program can be completed in as little as 60 credit hours, which typically translates to full-time students finishing in two years. However, the program can also be completed on a part-time basis, allowing students to adjust the pace based on their needs.
