Applying to Graduate

Students must complete the online graduation application in the semester in which they intend to meet their program requirements. Please refer to the current Academic Calendar for specific application deadlines.

Submitting a Graduation Application

You are required to submit a Graduation Application for each program you are completing.

  1. Log into your myLSSC account
  2. Select the “Student” tab
  3. Click on the Graduation Application link
  4. If you are applying to graduate from multiple programs, you will need to submit a graduation application for each program
  5. If you are a Dual Enrollment student, please submit your application under the program that appears for you which is ND-Dual Enrollment
  6. You will also be asked to indicate if you wish to participate in the Commencement Ceremony
  7. Continue to check your Lakehawk mail throughout the semester for additional updates on your graduation status and participation in the Commencement Ceremony

General Information / FAQ’s

  • Is there a fee to apply for graduation? There is no fee to apply for graduation.
  • What is the difference between the conferral of my degree and the awarding of my degree? The conferral date is the date on which your degree or certificate is officially awarded. This will be the date that will appear on your transcripts. Conferral and awarding are typically used interchangeably.
  • What is the difference between graduation and Commencement?  Graduation is the awarding or conferral of a degree or certificate.  Commencement is the ceremony that celebrates students anticipated to complete their degree and/or college credit certificate program(s).
  • Where do I order/pick-up my cap and gown? Cap and Gowns are picked-up from the LSSC Bookstore. You will receive additional information regarding your cap and gown via your Lakehawk Mail.
  • How do I receive information notifying me of graduation?  All official graduation correspondence will be sent your Lakehawk email.
  • Do I have to attend the Commencement Ceremony to obtain my degree or certificate?  No, degrees and certificates are not handed out at the Commencement Ceremony. Degrees and certificates will be mailed out 6-8 weeks after the conferral date. Please be sure that your current address is always up-to-date in your myLSSC account.
  • How do I update my address in myLSSC? Log into your myLSSC account, click on the Personal Information Tab, and click on Update Addresses and Phones.
  • When are degrees/certificates awarded? Degrees/certificates are conferred at the end of each semester (Fall, Spring, Summer). This is the date on which your degree is officially awarded and the date which will appear on your transcripts.  Because of final audit processing, it may take a couple of weeks for your record to show the awarding date.
  • How do I get a copy of my official transcripts?  If you require official LSSC college transcripts, you can order them via your myLSSC account. Log into your myLSSC account, click on the Student Tab, click on Student Records, and then click on Order Official Transcript.
  • If I participate in the Commencement Ceremony does this mean I’ve earned my degree/certificate? LSSC holds formal Commencement Ceremonies at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters. Participation in the Commencement Ceremony does not guarantee the awarding or issuance of a degree or certificate. Degree or certificate conferral relies solely on the satisfactory completion of all requirements.
  • I will not complete my degree requirements by the end of this current semester but I want to participate in the upcoming Commencement Ceremony, can I do that? Students who are within two courses of fulfilling their graduation requirements may participate in the Commencement Ceremony providing they submit a graduation application by the graduation application deadline.
  • I was not able to attend the Commencement Ceremony when I completed my program requirements, can I attend the next one? Students can request to participate in a different Commencement Ceremony on a case by case basis. Please email the Registrar’s Office at registrar@lssc.edu to request approval.
  • If I participate in the Commencement Ceremony does this mean I’ve earned my degree/certificate? LSSC holds formal Commencement Ceremonies at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters.   • What is Grade Forgiveness? Prior to graduation/having your degree awarded, if you wish to improve your GPA or satisfy transfer requirements, you can retake courses in which a grade of “D” or “F” were obtained. Once you have been awarded a Baccalaureate, A.A., A.S., A.A.S., and/or Technical Certificate, grade forgiveness cannot be awarded.
