Students also complete a semester of clinical rotations, where they gain hands-on experience alongside medical laboratory professionals and receive preparation for national certification.
Successful completion of this program qualifies students to apply for a Medical Laboratory Technician License in the state of Florida and to take the national certification examinations (ASCP, ABOR and/or AMT). The program is committed to producing well-qualified, committed, ethical technicians to serve Central Florida and beyond.

Tuition costs for programs and courses at the associate’s degree level are $109.73 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees.

Our A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology is a limited access program. This requires admission into LSSC first, then students may apply to the program.
- Apply to the Medical Laboratory Technology Program Fall start applications are accepted February 1 – June 1 each year and Spring start applications are accepted July 1 – October 15 each year.
- Submit your high school/GED and prior college/university transcripts
- Attend a Mandatory Information Session
- Meet with an Advisor
- Meet pre-requisite and GPA requirement: Applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.

Confirmed acceptance into the program will be granted when the following contingencies are met:
- Background Check
- Immunizations
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Professional CPR certification
- Pre-attendance drug screening
- Apply to the Florida Department of Health to obtain clinical trainee licensure prior to attending clinical internships
- Mandatory Orientation
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the program start date

Professional Licensure
Upon successful completion of the AS Medical Laboratory Technology program, a student is eligible for national certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician:
- MLT certification from ASCP Board of Certification (ASCP)
- MLT certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- MLT or MT certification from American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
You must also get a technician license from the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel to work as a Medical Lab Tech in the state of Florida.

The Medical Laboratory Technology Program is a full-time program held on the Clermont campus. The schedule will vary each semester and classes and labs are offered in-person with some hybrid/asynchronous options when available.
Yes, uniforms are required for lecture/lab and clinic. This information will be supplied during the mandatory orientation prior to the start of the semester.
