Emerging Lakehawks

Empower Your Future: Discover our Emerging Lakehawks Program

The Emerging Lakehawks Program, funded by Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC), is a non-credit certificate program designed to prepare students for college enrollment and success at LSSC. It offers free academic support, career exploration, cultural opportunities, and college admission guidance.

Services include math instruction, dual enrollment and test guidance (ACT/SAT/PERT), campus tours, financial literacy workshops, career exploration, financial aid guidance, scholarship support, and cultural activities. Sessions are available in person at LSSC campuses and virtually after school during the Fall and Spring terms. Program duration varies, with a maximum of four years based on enrollment date.

Eligibility requirements

  • Students enrolled at a high school in Lake or Sumter County school districts. 
  • Ambitious about attending Lake-Sumter State College in the summer or fall semester after high school graduation. 
  • First Generation students receive priority admission.

Program Length

Program completion varies depending on the date of enrollment. Maximum – 4 years.

Tuition is 100% free.

High school students enrolled in a school in Lake or Sumter County who are motivated to attend Lake-Sumter State College in the fall or spring semester following high school graduation are eligible.

Participants are required to attend two Wednesday and Saturday sessions per semester to receive additional college preparedness guidance and academic support in Math.

Transportation to LSSC, meals, supplies, and other essentials are provided free of charge.

Students who maintain favorable participation earn the opportunity to join educational and cultural field trips.
