The Health Sciences Collegiate Academy (HSCA) offers an accelerated, two-year program for incoming 11th graders in Lake County.

Through a partnership with Lake County Schools and Lake-Sumter State College, HSCA offers a one-of-a-kind experience that lets students enroll in college-level courses, and explore a future career in the health sciences field.

Applications for this program are now closed. Information provided below is for informational purposes only. Applications will reopen in 2022 for rising 11th graders at that time.

2021 Information Session


Program Path

11th Grade

  • Attend LSSC’s South Lake campus full time as dual enrolled student
  • Participate in observations at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital or AdventHealth Waterman

12th Grade

  • Attend LSSC’s South Lake campus full time as dual enrolled student
  • Participate in job shadowing at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital or AdventHealth Waterman
  • Special recognition of academy completers

Eligibility

11th Grade Enrollment Criteria

  • Have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have qualifying scores on the PERT
  • Be in good conduct standing
  • Submit HSCA application
  • Complete an interview with HSCA
  • Attend a four-day August orientation

Application Process 

  1. Attend an Information Session
    Please plan to attend one of our informational sessions. Students currently in 10th grade at Lake County Schools, Montverde Academy, and Pinecrest Lakes Academy Middle High will receive a letter to their home address, and students will receive a reminder card at school.
  1. Complete a Written Application
    The HSCA application contains six parts: Admission Process and Agreement, a Writing Sample, a Report Card, two Teacher recommendation forms, the Honor Code, and the LSSC Dual Enrollment (DE) application. Official transcripts are required for the DE application, and Lake County School students can request them online.
  1. Interview
    Students will be contacted to schedule and interview with 2-3 staff members from the HSCA partner institutions.
