The Health Sciences Collegiate Academy (HSCA) offers an accelerated, two-year program for incoming 11th graders in Lake County.

Through a partnership with Lake County Schools and Lake-Sumter State College, HSCA offers a one-of-a-kind experience that lets students enroll in college-level courses, and explore a future career in Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) and Health Sciences field. The program incorporates observations and job shadowing at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital or AdventHealth Waterman. Additional experiential learning opportunities are continually being developed to align with students’ career interests.

Program Path

11th Grade

  • Attend LSSC’s South Lake or Leesburg campus full time as dual enrolled student.
  • Participate in observations at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital or AdventHealth Waterman, and other experiential opportunities.

12th Grade

  • Attend LSSC’s South Lake or Leesburg campus full time as dual enrolled student.
  • Participate in job shadowing at Orlando Health South Lake Hospital or AdventHealth Waterman, and other experiential opportunities.
  • Special recognition of academy completers

Eligibility

11th Grade Enrollment Criteria

  • Have an unweighted high school GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • Have qualifying scores on the PERT
  • Be in good conduct standing
  • Submit HSCA application
  • Complete an interview with HSCA
  • Attend a two-day August orientation

Please plan to attend one of our informational sessions. Students currently in 10th grade at Lake County Schools, and Pinecrest Lakes Academy Middle High should have received an information mailer to their home address.

LSSC HSCA Dual Enrollment Application

The Dual Enrollment Application requires a high school GPA confirmation, a copy of your PERT or other qualifying test scores and the counselor approval form.

  • High School GPA Confirmation: Attach a copy of your most recent high school transcripts. Transcripts can be requested electronically
  • Test Scores: All students applying to HSCA must have qualifying PERT Scores of Math (114 or above), Reading (106 or above) and Writing (103 or above). You may submit other other acceptable test scores, including the SAT and ACT, if needed.
  • Counselor Approval Form: Your High School Guidance counselor will provide you this form
  • Semester Term Start: If  you are planning on taking a course at LSSC during the summer, please select “Summer” for your semester term start. If you do not plan on taking a course in summer, please select “Fall” as your semester term start.
  • High School Information: If your school IS NOT LISTED, please select “Other”. You will be able to enter the name of your school at that point.
