The Associate in Science (A.S.) in Nursing degree program at Lake-Sumter State College offers a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare students for a successful career as a registered nurse.

Overview

Welcome to Nursing at Lake-Sumter State College (LSSC)- an accredited program with National Council Licensure Examination-RN (NCLEX-RN) pass rates well above the state and national averages. Graduates of the Lake-Sumter State Nursing Program are awarded an Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) degree and are eligible to take the NCLEX-RN to become a licensed registered nurse.

Important Notes: LSSC’s ASN degree is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing (BON) and fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). 

Program Length

The ASN degree is 72 credit hours. Estimated time to completion for pre-requisite courses is 0-3 semesters and 3-4 semesters after beginning the program to completion.

The A.S. Nursing program is approximately $14,000 including all course tuition, course/lab fees and additional equipment. 

The application period for General track, fall semester start (February 1st – June 15th); General track spring semester start (July 1st – October 15th); Bridge summer semester start (February 1st – April 1st); Bridge spring semester start (July 1st – October 1st). 

The General Track is a fully seated daytime program conducted Monday through Friday, with the possibility of an occasional clinical on a Saturday. Scheduled class, skills lab, and clinical hours vary by week with class times starting at 9 am and ending anywhere from noon- 5 pm. Skills labs and clinicals are usually one day a week ranging from 8-12 hours. Students should plan for approximately 12 to 25 hours per week in scheduled activities that are generally conducted 4-5 days per week. Class times are ONLY approximate and subject to change, potential students should plan to devote full-time to the program. 

Yes, you can work while in the program, however, due to the rigorous course work and schedule, students are cautioned to work no more than 24 hours per week.  

Yes, we accept both the HESI and the TEAS test (HESI benchmark: Math = 80; Language = must score at least 76 on all three sections with an overall average of 80. TEAS benchmark: 72).
