Graduates are eligible to apply for a Medical Laboratory Technician License in Florida and take national certification exams (ASCP, AAB, and/or AMT). The program emphasizes producing well-qualified, ethical technicians ready to serve Central Florida and beyond.

Students also complete a semester of clinical rotations, where they gain hands-on experience alongside medical laboratory professionals and receive preparation for national certification.
Successful completion of this program qualifies students to apply for a Medical Laboratory Technician License in the state of Florida and to take the national certification examinations (ASCP, ABOR and/or AMT). The program is committed to producing well-qualified, committed, ethical technicians to serve Central Florida and beyond.

- Lakehawk Journey: LSSC offers a certification course in phlebotomy which crosses over to MLT curriculum credit.

76 Credit Hours, 4 semesters after pre-requisites.
Program Cost
Tuition costs for programs and courses at the associate’s degree level are $109.73 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees.

Our A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology is a limited access program. This requires admission into LSSC first, then students may apply to the program.
- Apply to the Medical Laboratory Technology Program Fall start applications are accepted February 1 – June 1 each year and Spring start applications are accepted July 1 – October 15 each year.
- Submit your high school/GED and prior college/university transcripts
- Attend a Mandatory Information Session
- Meet with an Advisor
- Meet pre-requisite and GPA requirement: Applicants must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Complete all prerequisites with a grade of “C” or better. Refer to the following: AS Medical Laboratory Technology
Confirmed acceptance into the program will be granted when the following contingencies are met:
- Background Check
- Immunizations
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Professional CPR certification
- Pre-attendance drug screening
- Apply to the Florida Department of Health to obtain clinical trainee licensure prior to attending clinical internships
- Mandatory Orientation
- Must be 18 years of age or older by the program start date
Outcomes
- Certification exam pass rate: Last three active years of graduate certification rates demonstrating an average of at least 75% certification rates from all examinations, for graduates who take the exam within the first year of graduation.
- Graduation rate: Last three active years of graduate rates demonstrating an average of 70% for students completing the “final half” of the program.
- Placement rate: Last three active years of results of graduate placement rates demonstrating that an average of at least 70% of the respondent graduates either 1employment) or continue their education within one year of graduation as calculated by the most three-year period.

Certification pass rates and placement rates are based on students taking the certification exam and securing employment in the field or closely related or are currently enrolled within 12 months of graduation.
Professional Licensure
Upon successful completion of the AS Medical Laboratory Technology program, a student is eligible for national certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician:
- MLT certification from ASCP Board of Certification (ASCP)
- MLT certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)
- MLT or MT certification from American Association of Bioanalysts (AAB)
You must also get a technician license from the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel to work as a Medical Lab Tech in the state of Florida.

The Medical Laboratory Technology Program is a full-time program held on the Clermont campus. The schedule will vary each semester and classes and labs are offered in-person with some hybrid/asynchronous options when available.
Yes, uniforms are required for lecture/lab and clinic. This information will be supplied during the mandatory orientation prior to the start of the semester.
Yes, all required books must be paper format. These books will be uses throughout the entirety of the program for reference.
