The A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology Degree Program prepares students for a career as a vital part of the healthcare team, providing essential diagnostic information to assist in patient care.

Successful completion of this program qualifies students to apply for a Medical Laboratory Technician License in the state of Florida and to take the national certification examinations (ASCP, AAB, and/or AMT). The program is committed to producing well-qualified, committed, ethical technicians to serve Central Florida and beyond.

Overview

The A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology is a four-semester program with coursework that includes clinical hematology, immunology, clinical chemistry and serology, and microbiology. One semester of clinical rotations rounds out this comprehensive program preparing you for certification.

Successful completion of this program qualifies students to apply for a Medical Laboratory Technician License in the state of Florida and to take the national certification examinations (ASCP, AAB, and/or AMT). The program is committed to producing well-qualified, committed, ethical technicians to serve Central Florida and beyond.

  • Local Partnerships: MLT clinical partners include Advent Health Waterman, Orlando Health, UF Health, LRMC, TVRH, and Vista Clinical Diagnostics. LSSC is also part of the LakeWorks partnership with Lake Tech and the DirectConnect to UCF® program.
  • Lakehawk Journey: LSSC offers a certification course in phlebotomy which crosses over to MLT curriculum credit.

The quickest time to complete this limited access program full-time, after pre-requisites is 4 semesters (16 months).

Program Cost

Tuition costs for programs and courses at the associate’s degree level are $109.73 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees.

Professional Licensure

Upon successful completion of the AS Medical Laboratory Technology program, a student is eligible for national certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician:

  • MLT certification from ASCP Board of Certification
  • MLT certification from American Medical Technologists (AMT)

You must also get a technician license from the Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel to work as a Medical Lab Tech in the state of Florida.
