Bachelor Degree Programs
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN)
The RN to BSN degree at Lake Sumter State College is designed for individuals who hold a pre-licensure nursing degree (AS/AA) or diploma from a regionally accredited institution and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) or hold an active RN license.
Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership – Health Services Administration
The Bachelor of Applied Science in Leadership (SL) program at Lake-Sumter State College educates leaders to effectively manage their organizations and positively impact their communities. This program will be offered with both on-campus and online course requirements. Additional experiences outside of the classroom could require travel. With approximately 60 hours on top of your AA or AS degree, you can obtain a BAS in Leadership degree from Lake-Sumter State College.
Associate Degree Programs
Associate in Science – Health Services Management
The Health Services Management Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree prepares students for employment as health services managers in a variety of settings. Healthcare is America’s fastest-growing service industry. Graduates of this program will have numerous employment opportunities leading to promotional opportunities in management positions such as medical practice manager or supervisor of a revenue-cycle-related department in a hospital or other health facility.
Associate in Science – Medical Lab Technology
Working behind the scenes as an integral part of a health care team, the Medical Lab Tech provides valuable information to physicians as they diagnose, treat, and prevent illness. The A.S. in Medical Laboratory Technology at LSSC is a six-semester program with coursework that includes clinical hematology, immunology, clinical chemistry and serology, and microbiology. Two semesters of clinical internships round out this comprehensive program preparing you for certification.
Associate in Science – Nursing
Prepare for a career as a nurse and receive your RN license by earning your Associate in Science degree in Nursing (ASN) at Lake-Sumter State College. Students in our program have NCLEX pass rates that are among the best in Florida and across the country – our pass rates are well above state and national averages.
Associate in Science – Respiratory Care
Respiratory Therapists provide care ranging from emergent to long-term maintenance. They may assist with external cardiac massage, CPR, placing artificial airways or arterial lines, or obtaining arterial blood gases or EKGs. They will provide care to their patients with the use of mechanical ventilators, aerosol gases, aerosol nebulizer treatments, or other respiratory specific equipment. Following treatment, the respiratory therapist will monitor the patient’s physiologic response to the treatment by obtaining vital signs or monitoring test results.
Advanced Technical Certificates
Advanced Technical Certificate – Health Services Administration
The Health Services Management Advanced Technical Certificate (ATC) teaches the student skills that are needed to move into supervisory roles or to advance their career in any healthcare organization. Admission requirements for this ATC are the same as those for the Bachelor of Applied Science in Strategic Leadership, Health Services Administration Concentration.
College Credit Certificates
Certificate – Medical Information Coding and Billing
This certificate program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary to review and analyze health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for patient healthcare encounters. The Medical Information Coder/ Biller certificate also presents information about healthcare reimbursement methodologies. The medical coder is responsible for translating diagnostic and procedural narrative from the medical record into numeric codes.
Certificate – Medical Office Management
This certificate program is designed to provide students with the skills necessary for employment in occupations such as: administrative medical or dental assistant, referrals, medical billing clerk, physician credentialing specialist, medical receptionist, medical secretary, or electronic health record support with the foundation to promote to higher level positions with experience.
Dental Assisting – Entry Level
One of the top reasons to start a Dental Assisting Career should be career potential. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the job outlook for Dental Assistants is excellent. If you are seeking a stable, rewarding and satisfying career opportunity, dental assisting can be that career. No two days will ever be the same and your job will continuously renew itself. Dental Assisting is a career that will always be in demand and in need of enthusiastic, trained, and caring individuals.
Dialysis Technician
As kidney failure continues to be a growing national health problem, kidney disease is driving the growing demand for well-trained dialysis technicians. Dialysis technicians are employed in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and other medical facilities. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects the demand for dialysis technicians to grow 11% through 2028.
