The Computer Information Technology, Associate in Science (A.S.) Degree prepares students to succeed and thrive in the information technologies workforce. By developing knowledge and skills in software, hardware, networking, and programming, students are prepared to troubleshoot problems, analyze opportunities, develop multiple solution strategies, and communicate effectively with people about computers.
College credit certificates allow students to specialize in specific information technology roles such as help desk, IT analysis, and cybersecurity.

A student must have a high school diploma or GED to apply to Lake-Sumter State College.

Program Costs
Tuition costs for programs and courses at the associate's degree level are $109.73 per credit hour. Additional costs will include textbooks, materials, and course fees. Learn more about our tuition & fees.

The State of Florida requires students entering a Florida College System (FCS) or State University System (SUS) institution to demonstrate competency in civic literacy by the time they graduate, pursuant to s. 1007.25(5), Florida Statutes. Beginning with the 2021-2022 academic year, newly enrolled students must demonstrate competency through completion of a civic literacy course and by achieving a passing score on the Florida Civic Literacy Examination (FCLE).

Associate Dean of Workforce Development and acting Program Manager for CIT, Dr. Sargent joined LSSC in 2014 as an instructor. He started his IT career at Middlebury College as a lab manager and helpdesk support technician. He later worked for the USDA in tech support, then at the University of Maryland for nearly 14 years as a network administrator and project manager. Dr. Sargent also holds an MS in Information Technology and an MBA.
Mission
The mission of the Computer Information Technology program is to prepare students for a successful career as IT professionals.
Student Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the A.S. Computer Information Technology program requirements, graduates will be able to:
- Apply specific information technology skills to resolve technology issues.
- Demonstrate appropriate troubleshooting skills in support of technology end-users.
- Apply specific project management skills to develop IT systems and services.
- Employ appropriate database development standards to design and build efficient database systems.
- Analyze current topics in information technology.
The IoT Internship program was developed in such a manner that it further supports students in the CIT program through the use and application of advanced and cutting-edge network device technologies.
