The primary purpose of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to protect the rights and welfare of human research subjects recruited to participate in research activities and conducted at Lake-Sumter State College. The IRB is charged with the responsibility of reviewing, prior to its initiation, all research (whether funded or not) involving human participants. The IRB has the authority to approve, disapprove, monitor, and require modifications in all research activities that fall within its jurisdiction as specified by both the federal regulations and institutional policy.

Meeting Schedule
The LSSC IRB will meet as necessary to review submitted research proposals that are not deemed Exempt by the Co-Chairs. Faculty on nine-month contracts are not required to attend meetings in May, June, and July. When deemed appropriate by the Co-Chairs, business may be conducted asynchronously, especially during the summer semester, though such action shall not replace real-time discussions that are required for certain IRB actions.
